Who We Are

The Chicago Pharmacists Association comprises of pharmacists, technicians and volunteers who are dedicated to helping the community.

Membership in the association is open to all registered pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students, and those interested in the field of pharmacy. Pharmacy is our profession! We are proud of it! We support it! We implore all pharmacists to do the same!

Dues are collected throughout the year. Meetings are held on designated days each month (except for January, July, and December).

Our History

In September of 1922, William H. Huff, a practicing pharmacist, called together a group of interested pharmacists to form the Chicago Ethical Pharmacists Association. Raymond Thompson was the first president and A.E. Weathers, the first secretary.

In 1974, by a special vote, the name of the association was changed to the Chicago Pharmacists Association (CPhA). During this time the membership had grown tremendously.

From its inception, the CPhA has given financial aid to pharmacy students at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. In 1974, under the leadership of Cecil R. Dillard, the CPhA founded its own Scholarship Foundation to better assist those students in need.

In 1982, to celebrate the 60th year the existence of the Chicago Pharmacists Association, we published a Historical Book highlighting the Association’s achievements and that of its members.

The Chicago Pharmacists Association was founded on the idea of helping those in need. Ever since our organization was established, we have endeavored to provide help where the need is greatest.

Our team is made up entirely of volunteers. We advocate for those who need our help. Even a little help goes a long way.

That is why we are especially happy to find new volunteers who share our commitment to doing good in the world. Do you want to support us by helping with our work? Then do not hesitate to contact us. A helping hand is always greatly appreciated!

The CPhA has, since 1922, made it its Mission to PROVIDE OPTIMAL PHARMACEUTICAL CARE AND TO HELP MAINTAIN AND ENHANCE COMMUNITY HEALTH. The CPhA has been honoring this mission by serving the communities of Chicago and the surrounding suburban areas. As an association, we are committed to keeping members, families and communities healthy. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for all.

The CPhA pharmacists, technicians and students participate in an array of health fairs, health screenings, and education seminars for both association members and the community. The association takes an active part in the various pharmacy organizations and conventions on the local, state and national levels.

The CPhA is affiliated with the Illinois Pharmacists Association (IPhA) and the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA).

As strenuous efforts continue by the CPhA to provide optimal care to the community, more pharmacists and support staff are needed to continue the mission.
